S Pen Barrel Button Setup

How to Configure Samsung S Pen Barrel Button for Drawing Apps

What is the Pen Barrel Button?

The barrel button (also called the pen button) is the physical button on the side of your S Pen stylus. When used with graphics tablets and drawing applications, this button typically functions as a shortcut - often set to switch to an eraser tool or perform other quick actions while drawing.

How the Barrel Button Works with VirtualTablet

When you use your Samsung tablet with VirtualTablet, the barrel button can be configured to work just like a professional graphics tablet:

  • In drawing apps (Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Krita, etc.): Switch between tools, activate eraser, or trigger custom shortcuts
  • Cross-platform support: Works seamlessly with both Windows and macOS computers
  • Customizable: Configure different functions based on your workflow

Disable Air Command (Required Setup)

By default, Samsung devices with S Pen support trigger Air Command when you click the barrel button while hovering. This interferes with using the button for drawing applications.

To use your S Pen barrel button properly with VirtualTablet and graphics software, you must first disable this feature:

  1. Open Settings on your Samsung phone or tablet
  2. Navigate to Advanced features > S Pen > Air command
  3. Disable “Open Air command with Pen button”

ℹ️
Note: The exact menu structure may vary depending on your device model or Samsung One UI version. If you cannot find the exact path above, look for similar options like “S Pen settings”, “Air actions”, or “Pen button” settings in your device’s Settings menu.

Once disabled, your S Pen barrel button will work correctly with VirtualTablet, allowing you to use it as a shortcut in your favorite drawing and design applications.
