WiFi Connection Overview

WiFi connection offers the flexibility to use your tablet as a graphics tablet without being tethered to your PC. While it may have slightly higher latency than USB, modern WiFi provides excellent performance for most creative work.

Connection Methods Comparison

VirtualTablet offers three WiFi-based connection methods, each with unique advantages:

Step 1: Choose Your Network Configuration

Method A: Same Router Connection (Recommended for Beginners)

This is the most straightforward method for home or office use.

Setup Process:

Connect your PC to your WiFi router
Connect your tablet to the same WiFi network
Ensure both show the same network name (SSID)

Advantages:

No additional configuration needed
Works with existing network setup
Multiple devices can connect simultaneously

Considerations:

Performance depends on router quality
May experience interference in crowded WiFi environments
Latency varies with network traffic

Method B: WiFi Tethering (Hotspot)

Create a direct wireless connection between your Android device and PC.

Setup Process:

On Android: Settings → Network & Internet → Hotspot & Tethering
Enable WiFi Hotspot
Note the network name and password
Connect your PC to this hotspot network

How to disable mobile data while keeping hotspot active:

Enable WiFi hotspot first
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile Network
Turn OFF Mobile Data
Your hotspot remains active for local connections

Method C: USB Tethering (Hybrid Solution)

Combines USB stability with wireless-like functionality.

Windows Setup:

Connect Android device via USB
Enable USB tethering on Android
Windows automatically configures the connection

Mac Setup (Possible but Not Recommended):

Install HoRNDIS driver
Connect Android device
Enable USB tethering

Step 2: Identify Your Server IP Address

Once your network is configured, you need to find your PC’s IP address on that network.

Launch VirtualTablet Server on your PC
Look for the Server IP section
Note the displayed IP addresses (e.g., 192.168.1.100, 172.18.160.1)

Understanding IP addresses:

192.168.x.x: Private network (Small size, most common)
172.16.0.0 ~ 172.31.255.255: Private network (Medium size)
10.x.x.x: Private network(Larget size)
169.254.x.x: Self-assigned (connection issue)

Troubleshooting IP Issues

If you see multiple IP addresses:

Try each one starting with 192.168
Avoid addresses starting with 169.254
The correct IP usually matches your network range

Step 3: Connect from Your Tablet

With your server IP ready, it’s time to connect your tablet.

Automatic Discovery

Open VirtualTablet app on your tablet
The app will scan for servers automatically
If found, tap your server from the list

Manual Connection

If automatic discovery fails (common in some network configurations):

Tap the IP Address field
Enter the server IP from Step 2
Tap Connect

Step 4 (Optional): Optimize Your Connection

For minimal latency:

Position devices optimally
- Keep both tablet and PC close to a WiFi router
- Minimize obstacles between them
- Avoid interference from other electronics
Network settings:
- Use 5GHz WiFi when available (less interference)
- Disable bandwidth-heavy applications like downloading files

USB connection provides the fastest and most stable connection method for VirtualTablet, offering:

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have:

VirtualTablet Server installed on your PC
VirtualTablet app installed on your Android device
A USB cable (the one that came with your device works best)
Administrator access on your PC (for driver installation)

Step 1: Install ADB USB Drivers

For Windows Users

Windows requires ADB (Android Debug Bridge) drivers to communicate with Android devices via USB.

Visit your device manufacturer’s website to download the official USB drivers
Download and install the appropriate driver for your device
Restart your PC after installation

For Mac Users

Good news! ADB drivers are already included in macOS. No installation needed.

Step 2: Enable USB Debugging

USB Debugging must be activated on your Android device to allow VirtualTablet to communicate through USB.

Unlock Developer Options

Open Settings on your Android device
Navigate to About Device → Software Information

Tap “Build Number” 7-10 times until you see “Developer mode enabled” message

Activate USB Debugging

Go back to Settings
Find and open Developer Options (usually at the bottom of Settings)

Scroll to the Debugging section
Toggle USB Debugging ON

When you connect for the first time, Android will ask “Allow USB debugging?”. Make sure to tap “Allow” and optionally check “Always allow from this computer”.

Step 3: Connect and Configure

Connect your Android device to your PC using a USB cable
Allow USB debugging when prompted on your device
Open VirtualTablet Server on your PC
You can see your connected Android device in ‘USB Connection’ tab
Open VirtualTablet App on your Android device and try connecting in USB connection menu.

Verify USB drivers are installed correctly
Try a different USB cable (some cables are charge-only)
Try different USB ports

Windows Users

For Windows users with multiple monitors, by default, stylus pen input is only sent to the first monitor without any additional configuration. To direct input to your desired monitor, follow these configuration steps: (Note: While it’s possible to select a specific monitor for input, it’s not possible to span input across multiple monitors.)

Accessing Tablet PC Settings Menu

Method 1: Using Control Panel

Find and access the settings menu through Control Panel.

Open Control Panel
Change View by to Large icons in the top right corner
Find and open Tablet PC Settings

When VirtualTablet Server is properly installed, stylus pen-related drivers are installed, which automatically adds the Tablet PC Settings menu to Control Panel. If you cannot find this menu in Control Panel after a successful installation, please restart your computer and check again.

Method 2: Creating Shortcut

Create a shortcut to directly access the settings menu without searching through Control Panel.

Go to Desktop
Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select New > Shortcut from the menu

Paste the following into Item location:

Name the shortcut Tablet PC Settings
Open the created shortcut

Selecting Monitor

Before selecting a monitor, first run both VirtualTablet app and VirtualTablet Server, complete the connection, and verify that stylus pen input is being transmitted properly.

Then, click the Setup button in the Configuration section of the Tablet PC Settings window, and the following message will appear on your monitor:

To direct pen input to the monitor displaying this message, touch the screen with the pen in the VirtualTablet app. If you want to select a different monitor than the one showing the message, press Enter to cycle through monitors until the message appears on your desired monitor, then touch the screen with the pen in the VirtualTablet app.

Once configured using the above method, you can verify that pen input is being directed to your selected monitor.

Mac Users

Unlike Windows users, Mac users don’t need to change operating system settings. Simply select your desired monitor from the menu displayed within the VirtualTablet Server application.

VirtualTablet requires devices equipped with pressure sensitive stylus pen with hover mode to function properly. These advanced features are typically found in devices using Wacom Digitizer Stylus technology, which powers Samsung Galaxy Note series and most Windows tablets.

Important: Capacitive touch pens (usually with large round rubber tips) don’t support pressure sensitivity or hover mode. While you can draw with these pens or your finger in the Android app, pressure sensitivity will not work.

If the same issue occurs even when installing with an administrator account, please navigate to the following path and send all .log files starting with VirtualTablet_Server_ to support@sunnysidesoft.com. We will help identify and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Log file path: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp

AppData is a hidden folder, so it may not be visible when you access the [username] folder. In this case, you can either check 'View' > 'Show' > 'Hidden items' in Explorer menu, or click on the empty space in the Explorer address bar and directly enter the path above.

Connection Issues

Cannot Connect with Your IP?

Common causes and solutions:

Different networks: Ensure both devices are on the same WiFi
Firewall blocking: Allow VirtualTablet through Windows Firewall
Router isolation: Some routers prevent communication between devices
VPN disabled: VPN can cause communication errors between devices when enabled

If you cannot connect even though your PC and tablet are on the same network, the issue is likely with your Windows Firewall settings.

Open Windows Firewall settings
Add VirtualTablet Server to the allowed applications list

Experiencing lag or delays when using WiFi connection? Here are proven methods to improve performance:

1. Optimize Physical Distance

Keep your PC, router, and tablet physically close together when using WiFi connection
Reduce obstacles between devices (walls, furniture, electronic interference)

2. Try WiFi Tethering

Create a direct connection between devices without going through a router
Bypass network congestion and router limitations

3. Use USB Tethering

USB tethering provides the fastest, most stable connection for Android devices
Eliminates WiFi network variables and provides consistent performance

4. Try USB Connection (Recommended)

USB tethering and a direct USB connection via ADB are completely different methods.
This method requires enabling Developer Options on your Android device. Once set up, it’s easy to use and offers stable, consistent performance.

Do I need to install drivers?

Windows: VirtualTablet HID drivers are installed automatically during setup
Mac: No additional drivers needed
USB connection: Requires ADB drivers on Windows
