Android Connection Issues

Having trouble connecting your devices? Find solutions to common Bluetooth pairing and connection problems here for Android users who are trying to connect Windows/Mac/Linux PC.

Status Does Not Show ‘Ready to Pair/Connect’

Before you can pair and connect, the app status should display Ready to Pair/Connect.

ℹ️

Understanding Status Indicators:
🟢 Green: Normal operation - everything is working correctly
🟡 Yellow / 🔴 Red: Abnormal status - there’s an issue that needs attention

Why this happens:

Android only allows one app at a time to function as a Bluetooth HID (Human Interface Device). If another app is using this feature, VirtualTablet: Bluetooth cannot work correctly.

Solution:

Close any Bluetooth keyboard/mouse apps, even if they’re running in the background
- Examples: Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse, Bluetouch, Bluetooth Remote, BT Remote, etc.
If the issue persists, some apps don’t properly release Bluetooth HID when closed:
- Uninstall other Bluetooth input apps, or
- Restart your device and launch VirtualTablet: Bluetooth first
You should now see ‘Ready to Pair/Connect’

⚠️

Some older or budget Android devices don’t support Bluetooth HID. If your device doesn’t support this feature, you won’t be able to use VirtualTablet: Bluetooth.

Cannot Pair Between Mobile Device and PC

Quick fixes:

Turn Bluetooth off and on again on both devices, then retry pairing
Restart both devices and try pairing again

For Windows users - Advanced troubleshooting:

If the above steps don’t work:

Open Device Manager
Locate and remove the Bluetooth Adapter device
Restart your computer (it will reinstall Bluetooth Adapter device)
Try pairing again

Connection Failure

For Linux Users

For Ubuntu 25 and newer, you don’t need to do anything - it just works.

But for older Ubuntu releases (20~24), you need to check Bluez configuration.

Step 1 — Enable HID plugins in BlueZ

sudo nano /etc/bluetooth/main.conf

Add:

[General]
Enable=HID
Experimental=true
```

Step 2 — Restart Bluetooth
```
sudo systemctl restart bluetooth
```
Step 3 — Load HIDP (classic HID) kernel driver
```
sudo modprobe hidp
```
- Persistent load:
```
echo hidp | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
```
Step 4 — Repair/pair your device

Connection Timeout

Why this happens:

If you paired your devices before running VirtualTablet: Bluetooth, your PC may not recognize that your mobile device has tablet input capability. The system can only detect this while the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth app is actively running.

Solution:

Remove the paired device from both your Android device and PC
Launch the app and wait until you see ‘Ready to Pair/Connect’ in the status bar
Pair your devices again
Try connecting

Connection Successful but Cursor Doesn’t Move

If your devices are connected but the cursor isn’t responding:

Remove the paired device from both your Android device and PC
Turn Bluetooth off and on for both devices
Launch the app and wait until you see ‘Ready to Pair/Connect’ in the status bar
Pair your devices again
Test cursor movement

iOS Connection Issues

Having trouble connecting your iPhone or iPad? This page covers common Bluetooth pairing and connection problems for each platform.

⚠️

Most important note for Windows users: after your iOS device is paired once, Windows may fail to reconnect the next time you launch the app. In many cases, you must remove the existing pairing and pair again before reconnecting.

For Windows Users

Due to a Windows Bluetooth limitation, you may find that after successfully pairing your iPhone or iPad, the connection no longer works the next time you launch the app.

Workaround — re-pair before reconnecting:

Open Bluetooth settings on your PC
Find and remove the paired device (it may appear as VT-HID or your iOS device name)
Pair again by selecting the device named VT-HID
Return to the app and connect again

If the old pairing still appears on your iOS device, remove it there as well and start the pairing process from scratch.

We apologize for this inconvenience. This is a known limitation of how Windows handles Bluetooth HID devices, and we are working to improve it in a future update.

Tip: If you switch the app to the background briefly and bring it back to the foreground, the connection may restore automatically — as long as the app hasn’t been fully closed.

Quick Check for Any Platform

If the connection fails or your computer does not appear in the scan list, try turning Bluetooth off and back on again on both devices before pairing again.

For Mac Users

Same Apple Account is required — Your Mac and your iPhone or iPad must be signed in to the same Apple Account. If they use different accounts, your Mac may not appear in the scan results and you will not be able to connect.
Duplicate device names in scan results — If you see multiple devices with the same name, try connecting to a different one until you find the correct one.
Connection not working after a previous attempt — Remove the existing Bluetooth pairing and try again:
1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch → Devices → Bluetooth Devices
2. Tap the ⓘ button next to the target device, then tap Forget This Device
3. Re-open the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth app and connect again
Still not connecting — Try rebooting both your iPhone/iPad and your Mac to reset the Bluetooth state.

For Linux Users

For Ubuntu 25 and newer, you don’t need to do anything - it just works.

But for older Ubuntu releases (20~24), you need to check Bluez configuration.

Performance Issues

Quick Fixes (Try These First)

These simple steps often resolve performance issues:

Toggle Bluetooth: Turn off and turn on Bluetooth on both your mobile device and PC
Restart both devices: A fresh restart can clear temporary issues affecting performance
Re-pair the device: Remove the pairing on both devices and set it up again

Mobile Device Fixes (Android/iOS)

Move Closer to Your PC

Bluetooth signal weakens with distance. Stay within a few meters of your PC for the best performance.

Reduce Bluetooth Interference

Bluetooth can be affected by interference from nearby devices and electronics:

Turn off unused Bluetooth devices nearby
Move away from other active Bluetooth devices
Move away from WiFi routers
Move away from USB 3.0 devices and cables (they can emit interference)

Disconnect Other Bluetooth Devices

Running too many Bluetooth devices simultaneously can degrade performance. For optimal results:

Disconnect Bluetooth headsets, mice, and keyboards from your mobile device if possible
Test again to see if performance improves

Disable Battery Optimization

Android/iOS may throttle Bluetooth performance in battery saver mode. Check your device’s battery settings and disable optimization for VirtualTablet to ensure consistent performance.

Adjust Input ‘Report Rate’

This setting controls how many position updates are sent from your mobile device to your PC every second.

Higher Rates: Provide smoother, more fluid cursor movements and better precision for drawing or writing.
Lower Rates: Reduce the amount of data being sent, which can help if your Bluetooth connection is unstable or your device is struggling to keep up.

Recommendation: While a higher rate improves the experience, exceeding your device’s processing capacity or Bluetooth bandwidth can actually cause lag. If you experience “stuttering,” try lowering the Input Rate until the movement becomes stable.

PC-Side Fixes

Check PC Performance

High CPU usage on your PC can affect input responsiveness. Close unnecessary applications and check Task Manager to ensure your system isn’t overloaded.

Disconnect Other Bluetooth Devices

Having too many Bluetooth devices connected to your PC can reduce available bandwidth. Disconnect Bluetooth headsets, mice, keyboards, and other devices temporarily to test if performance improves.

Desktop Onboard Bluetooth Chipset

Desktop motherboards sometimes use less powerful onboard chipsets, which can struggle to keep up with the data flow required for low-latency inputs. This is especially true for older chipsets that only support Bluetooth version 4.x.

To ensure the best possible, lag-free experience, we highly recommend one of the following:

Use an External Bluetooth Dongle: This is the most reliable solution. A dedicated dongle (such as those made by TP-Link or CSR) often includes its own dedicated antenna and consistently delivers high performance.
- Pro Tip: Even a BT 4.x dongle will often perform better than an onboard BT 4.x chipset.
Use Bluetooth 5.0 or Higher: If you are buying a new dongle, look for one that supports Bluetooth 5.0 or newer to guarantee full, optimized performance.

Apple Pencil Hover Not Working on iPad

Using a hover-capable iPad and Apple Pencil, but hover still does not work in VirtualTablet: Bluetooth? In many cases, hover is simply turned off in iPad settings.

⚠️

This applies only to iPads and Apple Pencil models that support Apple Pencil hover. If your hardware does not support hover, turning on the setting will not add hover support.

Check the Hover Setting on Your iPad

Open Settings on your iPad
Tap Apple Pencil
Make sure Hover is turned On

If Hover is off, iPadOS does not send hover input to the app, so VirtualTablet: Bluetooth cannot detect the pen until the tip touches the screen.

Why This Happens

Some users assume hover is broken because pressure or normal pen input still works. However, hover is controlled by an independent iPadOS setting.

That means:

Your iPad and Apple Pencil can still connect normally
Pressure and tilt can still work after contact
Hover will not work until Settings > Apple Pencil > Hover is enabled

How to Confirm It Is Working

After turning Hover on:

Return to VirtualTablet: Bluetooth
Bring the Apple Pencil close to the screen without touching it
Check whether the cursor responds before the tip touches the display

On supported iPads, Apple Pencil hover works when the pencil is held slightly above the screen.

If Hover Still Does Not Work

Confirm that your iPad and Apple Pencil combination supports Apple Pencil hover. See the Apple Pencil model comparison guide
Make sure your iPad is updated to a recent version of iPadOS
Close and reopen VirtualTablet: Bluetooth after changing the Hover setting
If needed, restart your iPad and reconnect
