Getting Started with VirtualTablet: Bluetooth

Follow these steps to connect your Android or iOS tablet to your computer using VirtualTablet: Bluetooth.

1. Launch the App

Open the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth app on your tablet and check the status bar. It should display “Ready to Pair/Connect”.

2. Add Device

Tap the “Add Device” button to start scanning for available computers.

3. Select Your Computer

The app will display a list of nearby Bluetooth devices. Locate your computer in the list and tap the “Pair” button next to it.

ℹ️

Can’t find your computer? Open the Bluetooth settings on your PC or Mac to make it discoverable.

4. Confirm Pairing

A pairing request will appear on both your tablet and computer. Tap “Pair” on your tablet, then click “Pair” on your computer to complete the pairing process.

5. Connect to Your Computer

Once paired, tap the “Connect” button to establish a connection to your computer.

6. Start Drawing

When the connection is successful, the app will transition to the tablet screen. You can now use your stylus to draw, and your inputs will be sent to your computer in real-time.

ℹ️

Don’t have an active stylus? If you don’t have an active stylus like the S Pen, you can use your finger or a capacitive stylus instead. Open the settings menu and change the Input Mode to “Graphic Tablet Mode with Passive Stylus”. See Input Modes for the difference between absolute graphic tablet input and relative mouse input.

VirtualTablet: Bluetooth supports two main input modes:

Graphic Tablet Mode uses the absolute position of your finger or stylus inside the drawing area, like a traditional pen tablet such as a Wacom tablet
Mouse Mode uses relative movement, which feels closer to a trackpad or mouse

Graphic Tablet Mode

Graphic Tablet Mode is designed to behave like a traditional drawing tablet.

How it works

Input is mapped to an exact location on the target display
The tablet surface acts like a pen input area for your computer
The cursor or pen position jumps directly to the touched location

Best for

Drawing
Handwriting
Precise brush control
Pressure-sensitive pen workflows

Good to know

This is usually the best mode when using an active stylus such as S Pen or Apple Pencil
If you are using your finger or a passive stylus, you can still use Graphic Tablet Mode, but pressure sensitivity is not available
On Windows, if you use multiple monitors, you may also need to configure the target display in Monitor Selection

Mouse Mode

Mouse Mode is designed for relative cursor movement.

How it works

The cursor moves based on how far you move your finger or stylus
The starting touch position does not map to a fixed screen location
This feels closer to using a trackpad or a regular mouse

Best for

General cursor control
Navigating desktop apps
Users who want a more familiar laptop trackpad-style feel

Good to know

If you expected Magic Trackpad-like behavior, this is the mode you should try first
Mouse Mode is better for pointing and navigation than for pen-tablet style drawing

Which Mode Should You Choose?

Choose Graphic Tablet Mode if you want:

Natural pen-tablet behavior
Better drawing precision
Direct screen mapping

Choose Mouse Mode if you want:

More familiar trackpad-style cursor movement
Easier desktop navigation
Relative movement instead of absolute mapping

Using your finger or a capacitive stylus instead of an active pen? Switch to “Graphic Tablet Mode with Passive Stylus” if you want screen-mapped absolute input without pressure sensitivity.

Selecting Specific Monitor in Multi-Monitor Environment

Windows Users

For Windows users with multiple monitors, by default, stylus pen input is only sent to the first monitor without any additional configuration. To direct input to your desired monitor, follow these configuration steps.

ℹ️

Note: While it’s possible to select a specific monitor for input, it’s not possible to span input across multiple monitors.

Accessing Tablet PC Settings Menu

Method 1: Using Control Panel

Find and access the settings menu through Control Panel.

Open Control Panel
Change View by to Large icons in the top right corner
Find and open Tablet PC Settings

⚠️

Once VirtualTablet: Bluetooth is properly connected to your Windows PC, Windows recognizes that a pen device is available, which automatically adds the Tablet PC Settings menu to Control Panel.

If you cannot find this menu in Control Panel after a successful connection, try the following:

Restart your computer and check again.
If you still can’t find it, try removing the pairing from both your mobile device and PC, then reconnect.
You can also try Method 2 below to directly access Tablet PC Settings. However, if a pen device is not recognized correctly, you still won’t be able to change the target monitor (all buttons in Tablet PC Settings will be disabled without a pen device).

ℹ️

Tip: To verify if your pen device is properly recognized by Windows, go to Settings > System > About and look for the “Pen support” indicator.

Method 2: Creating Shortcut

Create a shortcut to directly access the settings menu without searching through Control Panel.

Go to your Desktop.
Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select New > Shortcut from the menu.

Paste the following into Item location:

Name the shortcut Tablet PC Settings.
Open the created shortcut.

Selecting Monitor

Before selecting a monitor, first run the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth app, complete the connection, and verify that stylus pen input is being transmitted properly.

Then follow these steps:

Open the Tablet PC Settings window using either Method 1 or Method 2 above.
Click the Setup button in the Configuration section.
The following message will appear on one of your monitors:

To select the monitor displaying this message:

Simply touch the screen with the pen in the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth app.

To select a different monitor:

Press Enter on your keyboard to cycle through monitors until the message appears on your desired monitor.
Then touch the screen with the pen in the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth app.

Once configured, you can verify that pen input is being directed to your selected monitor.

Mac Users

Unlike Windows users, Mac users can select a target monitor directly in the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth Agent app installed on macOS.

If you have not installed the agent app yet, you can download it from the Download page.

To select a monitor:

Open the VirtualTablet: Bluetooth Agent app on your Mac.
Select your desired monitor from the menu displayed within the agent app.

Device Requirements

VirtualTablet: Bluetooth works best with devices that support a pressure-sensitive stylus. For the full drawing experience, use hardware that supports advanced pen features such as pressure, tilt, and hover.

⚠️

Important: Capacitive touch pens (usually with large round rubber tips) do not support pressure sensitivity. While you can draw with these pens or your finger in some modes, pressure-sensitive input will not work.

Devices with Full Support

These devices support all VirtualTablet: Bluetooth features, including pressure sensitivity and tilt:

Minimum OS Version: Android 9.0 or later is required to use VirtualTablet: Bluetooth on Android devices.

⚠️

Bluetooth HID Requirement: Android devices must support the Bluetooth HID (Human Interface Device) feature to use VirtualTablet: Bluetooth.

Some budget devices from manufacturers like Xiaomi, Redmi, Oppo, Realme, Nokia, and TECNO may not include Bluetooth HID support.
If your device lacks this feature, the app will display a Bluetooth HID error status on top of the ‘Connect’ page.

macOS pairing requirement: when connecting an iOS device to macOS, both devices must be signed in to the same Apple Account. If they use different accounts, your Mac may not appear in the scan list and the connection will fail.

How to Check Compatibility

Not sure if your device is compatible? Here’s how to check:

1. Check for Active Stylus

Look for mentions of ‘S Pen’, ‘Apple Pencil’, ‘Active Pen’, or ‘Digitizer’ in your device specifications
Search for ‘Wacom’ technology in the device documentation

2. Test Hover Mode

Hold the stylus above the screen without touching it
If a cursor appears on screen, your device has hover mode support

3. Pressure Test

Use a drawing app to test if line thickness changes with pen pressure
Try varying pressure from light to heavy strokes
